The National Contest of Oratory is one of the events of greatest cultural and academic importance in Panama, for this reason, El Colegio Cristiano Buen Pastor held its internal elimination in recent months and the winner was the student: Sofía del Carmen Trejos of tenth grade A.
This activity, as every year, was built in healthy competition, the development of intellect and leadership among the young people, who through the use of rhetoric and the art of oratory, address and analyze present issues that year after year have marked the historical evolution of the country.
Aimed to the middle-level students of official and private schools, It was created in 1970 by Caja de Ahorros and has been held for 28 years. After an absence of several years, in the year 2005 the company Cable & Wireless Panama assumed the official sponsorship of the National Contest of Oratory and together with Caja de Ahorros and the Ministry of Education resumed its organization. It is a project managed by Panama Cable & Wireless Foundation.
It is estimated that in 15 years the contest has directly impacted 600,000 high school students throughout the country.
The motto of this year is ’’Pact of the Bicentennial: Youth that seeks to close gaps for a more equitable, fair and supportive Panama.’’ Or in Spanish ‘’Pacto del Bicentenario: Juventud que busca cerrar brechas por un Panamá más equitativo, justo y solidario’’
