Dr. Eduardo Stelee: A life to remember

Eduardo Steele is a man described as a father, mentor, leader, man of God, and with vision of transforming Panamanian education.

Eduardo Robert Steele Monroe was born in Panama City on June 11th,1946. He was Daniel and Violet Steele’s son, the fourth of 5 brothers

He graduated high school at Instituto Nacional de Panamá. After high school, he attended the University of Panama where he majored in mathematics. In his first year as an undergrad student, he received a scholarship from the University of Montpellier in France, where he finished his degree and went on to obtain a Master’s in pure and applied mathematics.

His dedication and advocacy to improving the quality of education and giving his best to his students, it was shown when served as a chairman of the University of Panama Math School as well as by founding Colegio Cristiano el Buen Pastor.

He played a crucial role as a founder and director of multiple organizations like the foundation ‘Escuela Familia y Comunidad’ from which he was the president and legal representative of the organization.

On a personal level, it was a pleasure and joy to work him, he was described by his colleagues and students as someone that would teach you something new on every occasion or encounter.

“It was a very pleasant experience. A very organized man, full of wisdom who loved excellence and giving value to others.”   Adan Vergara-Chemistry professor

At all times, he focused on the best quality education for his students and the well-being of the employees. Not just in their academic lives but as a whole. We asked to some professors about their opinions on working with him:

Enriching, as his actions spoke more than a thousand words. He had so much to say and always looked to seek to help his colleagues to improve in all ways, and so with students that presented economic, health or social issues, he always searched for a way to reach them.”  Tatiana Gomez- Biology professor

A person whose life was fully dedicated not only to his job as a school principal and all that it entails but he also poured out his life into the purpose God had for him. I admired his way of knowing about everything, he knew details of every possible topic, wether it was politics, sports, fashion, music, technology, science. Now, that I think back on how he would sit down and talk with you for hours, I appreciate it more because he was giving out his precious time and sharing his wisdom and what he had learned in life with people.”   Dasha Jimenez- English professor

Dr. Eduardo Steele will always be remembered as a fully committed with education person, a man of God, and a wise visionary. A man that changed hundreds of lives through his 40 years of service as a professor, advisor, and principal. The person who shaped the lives of many and paved the way for generations during his service lifetime and generations to come.
