MALALA YOUSAFZAI
INSPIRED BY THE BOOK: I AM MALALA
By Nina Rosado
Malala Yousafzai was born in 1997 Swat Valley, a beautiful place with large amounts of wildflowers and fruits in Pakistan. Her name comes from Malalai, a heroine of Afghanistan.
She was celebrated as her parents, Ziauddin and Toorpekai Yousafzai’s first child even though she wasn’t a boy. From a very young age, her father taught her the importance of having an opinion and not being scared of sharing it.
She went to Khushal School, a school that was founded by her father before she was born.
Since the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, like her father Malala is an activist for women’s rights and education. She was shot by the Taliban on her way to school in 2012 when she was 15 years old. This happened because she started speaking at events about girls’ education, something that the Taliban didn’t like.
Two years after the attack, at 17 years old she became the youngest person to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.
She has written some books: I Am Malala, Malala’s Magic Pencil, We Are Displaced and Malala Speaks Out.
Nowadays, she keeps leading movements and campaigns for girls’ education not just in Pakistan, but in the world.
